Wheeler Peak in Great Basin National Park

Great Basin National Park is the lone National Park in Nevada. It is also, compared to most other National Parks, seldom visited. And, consideirng how beautiful the place is, I guess that is a good thing.

This is the second photo gallery on this site that showcases Great Basin National Park. This gallery shows photos taken of the high peaks of the park from the west side, particularly from the Spring Valley. (more…)

Photos of Fencepost Art Near Great Basin National Park

Mad Cow Driver in Great Basin National Park

The Mad Driver in Great Basin National Park

This is a strange gallery, admittedly. Great Basin National Park is located 5 miles from Baker, NV…at the end of the road called Highway 488. This road, which runs up towards the park on a rather steep and very steady upgrade…is incredibly scenic to drive as the peaks of the park totally dominate the view.

Yet, there are other things to look at on the drive up to Great Basin National Park from Baker. You see, strung out all along the road between Baker and the parks entrance, is a significant collection of what I call “Fencepost Art.” Sometime in the past, perhaps out of boredom, either people from Baker itself or people who happened to be visiting the park, began to create odd and very unique pieces of art along the highway. Wheeler Peak in Great Basin National Park

Wheeler Peak in Great Basin National Park

Great Basin National Park is a beautiful park located in a very remote area of eastern Nevada, with the main entrance to the park being Baker. Great Basin National Park contains the USA’s southern-most glacier and as well as some of the tallest peaks in Nevada…with Wheeler Peak being the tallest peak with an elevation of 13,060 feet. Unlike most National Parks, Great Basin as of this date does not charge a entry-fee…probably because no one goes here. (more…)

Seat With a View in Great Basin National Park

Seat With a View in Great Basin National Park

There is nothing “special” about this photograph, I’ll be the first to admit. No dazzling colors. No dazzling rays of light. Yet, call me odd, I still like it. Perhaps because the photo was taken in one of my favorite National Parks…Great Basin National Park which is in Central Nevada.  Click on thumbnail to view the larger image. (more…)

This is one of my favorite photos. This photo at least to me defines what this part of Nevada is all about…massive valleys surrounded by towering mountain ranges.  (more…)
