Travel Log : The Big Smoky Valley of Central Nevada

The Big Smoky Valley is one of the big surprises that a person is likely to find when wandering around the state. I know I certainly was surprised the first time I accidentally stumbled into this valley. You see, I was returning to Reno from a week spent in Las Vegas. Highway 95 passes through the small town of Tonopah…which sort of acts as a travelers rest station and is a good place to get gas (just don’t try the McDonalds there…it is beyond terrible!). (more…)

PhotoBlog : The Las Vegas Monorail

PhotoBlog : The Las Vegas Monorail

OK. This is a terrible photograph. Sorry…despite what some people say, I do have a life, and thus wasn’t in the mood to really run around Las Vegas to take a good photo of the Las Vegas Monorail. So…that begs the question…why is this ugly photograph here?  (more…)

PhotoBlog : RIP Stardust Casino & Hotel in Las Vegas

PhotoBlog : RIP Stardust Casino & Hotel in Las Vegas

This photograph is certainly nothing outstanding. Indeed…it isn’t even that good. But it is all I have of the now laid to rest Stardust Casino & Hotel in Las Vegas. You see, at 2:30am on March 14th, 2007, the Stardust was brought down in the party-fashion way Las Vegas always seems to destroy it’s old casinos.  (more…)

Photoblog : A Seat With a View in Great Basin National Park

There is nothing “special” about this photograph, I’ll be the first to admit. No dazzling colors. No dazzling rays of light. Yet, call me odd, I still like it. Perhaps because the photo was taken in one of my favorite National Parks…Great Basin National Park which is in Central Nevada.  (more…)

Religion in Nevada…Interesting Observation

I just returned from spending five weeks back in the Midwest, Wisconsin in particular. While back in Wisconsin, the first time I had spent any significant time in the Midwest for many, many years…I noticed the huge amount of churches there. And more were in the process of being built. As such, when I returned back to Nevada this April, I sort of noticed the lack of churches here in comparison to Wisconsin. So I did some digging.  (more…)

I was thinking today of why someone might want to live in Nevada. And well, since I live here and am a “transplant” from Montana (among other places)…I guess I’m as qualified as anyone else to give a few reasons why someone might want to live in Nevada. (more…)

This is one of my favorite photos. This photo at least to me defines what this part of Nevada is all about…massive valleys surrounded by towering mountain ranges.  (more…)

Travel Log - A Trip Through the Monitor Valley of Central Nevada

Do you hate people? Do you want to get away from it all? Do you want to disappear…never to be seen again? Do you want to be totally alone…surrounded by beautiful mountains, an endless valley and in total silence except for what sounds the wind and the snakes make? If so…I have a destination for you…the Monitor Valley of Central Nevada.  (more…)
