About the Reese River Valley

The Reese River Valley is a true “hidden valley” in many ways. The reason for this is because anyone who wants to visit it really has to make some effort to get there, make an effort by looking on a map to simply see it, and once there…realize that the valley is “sort of a dead end.” Unlike many valleys in Nevada, the Reese River Valley sort of “ends” on the southern part…surrounded on the Southern, Eastern and Western sides by towering mountains.

Sadly, on the two days I was in/around the Reese River Valley…I had lousy weather. Cloudy, rainy and nasty…yeah…highly unusual, but well…that’s me…the luckless traveler. As such, the photos I have of the Reese River Valley are rather “lacking.”

For those looking on a map for the Reese River Valley, first find the town of Austin on Highway 50. Then follow Highway 722 to the southwest outside of town. Head down that road for a few miles and then look for the sign that points towards the Yomba Indian Reservation. This road…the only road that leads into the valley from the North, will provide a beautiful ride as towering mountains flank the valley on all sides. Also, as a sidenote, this is the main road used to access the western side of the Arc Dome Wilderness Area that is located in the Toiyabe Range.
