About This Gallery

This gallery showcases photographs I took of the Big Smoky Valley in March, during a on-again, off-again storm. I ended up venturing into this valley purely by accident…and I’m really glad I did. Other than the towns of Hadley and Carvers and a huge gold mine, there isn’t much in the Big Smoky Valley. Except for, of course, a massive and beautiful valley surrounded by the towering mountains of the Toiyabe Range and the Toquima Range.

State Highway 376 is the sole road that ventures through the valley, which itself is around 60 miles long and about 5-20 miles in width. This is an absolutely beautiful drive, especially if you come when there is still snow in the upper mountains (usually doesn’t melt til mid July or so).
