Photographs of Eureka, Nevada

About Eureka, Nevada

Eureka is a lonely town located in Central Nevada on Highway 50. Once upon a time, Eureka was a thriving boom town due to extensive mining activity located just outside of town. And today…while a mine is still in operation…other mines have closed down, at least for now. As such, there are many empty and abandoned buildings in Eureka…and I personally found the downtown area of Eureka to be rather quiet…even on a Friday night.

Eureka is in a rather scenic location. As the town as a high elevation, trees are rather abundant and there are tall and soaring mountians all outside of town.

If you are heading into Eureka…don’t plan on doing much shopping. To be blunt..there is virtually no shopping here at all, which REALLY surprised me considering the towns small but still not empty population and the very remoate location the town is in. I suspect most people do their shopping by taking a weekly drive into Ely or up to Elko…but that’s just a guess.

Eureka is home to several very historic buildings…the Eureka County Courthouse, the Jackson House and the Eureka Opera House…all of which have photographs in this gallery.
