About Ely, Nevada

Ely is a great little town way out in the middle of nowhere of Eastern Nevada. Ely is, at least currently, a boom town. The economy in Ely is heavily dependent on a mixture of the tourist trade, travelers and, above all, mining. With the explosion in commodity prices and the re-opening of a large mine out by Ruth…Ely right now has all the trappings of a boom town with exploding home prices and lack of housing in general.

Ely is located right in the middle of the Steptoe Valley and provides for wonderful outdoor recreation. Forested mountains surround Ely….allowing everything from hiking to snowmobiling and everything in between (sorry, no downhill ski areas are in Ely!).

Due to Ely’s location on Highway 93, Highway 50 and Highway 6…Ely gets a lot of people who pass through the town. As such, unlike most Nevada towns…Ely has lots of lodging options along with all of the usual places to eat. Additionally, several casinos are located in the downtown part of Ely (the downtown portion of Ely is on Highway 50…if you stay on Highway 6 or 93…you’ll never see the downtown area!).
