About Belmont, Nevada

Belmont is a truly hidden, out-of-the-way historic gem in Nevada. In order to get to Belmont, you REALLY have to make the effort. From the North, the only way to Belmont is down the Belmont Road which begins at US Highway 50 (Loneliest Highway in America) and which passes through the massive, beautiful and totally isolated Monitor Valley for more than 60 miles.

Or, you can reach Belmont, NV from the South (the quickest and easiest way, and on a paved road too), by starting off at Tonopah, heading east on US Highway 6 for a few miles, then heading North on State Highway 376 until you a State Road 82 (on the map it is identified as SSR 82). The trip up to Belmont from Tonopah is about 50 miles.

So either way, it’s a long haul to get to Belmont from where-ever you are coming from. Happily, the long, long drive is well worth it. Belmont is essentially a ghost town…with just a handful of year-round residences and occupied buildings. The remainder of the town is full of old buildings, some renovated and serving as tourist destination spots…other buildings are just empty shells and falling down.

I think there is a Bed and Breakfast in Belmont, but don’t hold me to it. However, there is a very nice BLM campground just a few miles to the South of Belmont…so if you don’t mind camping…you’ll have no problem finding lodging.
