Christmas Tree Pass PhotographsAbout Christmas Tree PassChristmas Tree Pass is a pass that leads over the Newberry Mountains. The road that goes over the pass is called, appropriately enough, Christmas Tree Pass Road. The road begins just outside the town of Laughlin and ends just to the South of the tiny little town of Searchlight, NV. The road can be kind of rough in places, but by and large, most vehicles shouldn’t have any problems long as you drive carefully. Still, high-clearance can be very helpful in a handful of the steeper and rutted out sections. The trip over Christmas Tree Pass is very enjoyable. You get some fine views of the Colorado River valley down below, where Laughlin is located. And you get sweeping views into Arizona. And once you reach the western side of the pass…the sprawling Mojave Desert just goes on and on. The road also leads to the trailhead of a wilderness that is part of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area and also passes by a short trail that leads up to some interesting Indian Petroglyphs. All in all, if you plan on being in Laughlin for a few days and have some time to kill, make a point of taking this interesting and rather scenic trip. It will only take an hour or two, but makes for a nice break away from the traffic-clogged Highway 95 that connects Laughlin to Boulder City.
