I remember success loop from over 35 yrs. ago. It's a beautiful place and very peaceful. Ely itself is a wonderful place and even back then [and now] the amount of people you meet from all over the world, in and around Ely, is just amazing. If you love wide open spaces and a small town for 'touching base' this is the place. Don't miss success loop.

Thanks for your site...I worked for Nye County Dept of Natural Resources and Federal Facilities in '02 and spent some time in Hadley during the Yucca Mtn Legislation days. I'm taking a miniature horse to the AMHA show this weekend (July 23-26, 2009) and we will journey back along Hwy 50 and drop down through the GSV to get my bearings back. Keep up the great work!

Yeah, you're right...that was a typo, or "something" I wrote up too late at night. Updated the travel log to reflect that.

Great info on the Monitor Valley. It's one of my favorite spots in the world. At any rate, the directions you give to the Belmont road from Reno on US 50 are incorrect. You state if you've arrived in Austin you've gone too far. Not so! The Belmont road is even east of the Big Smokey Valley Road. The Belmont Road is between Austin and Eureka. Good work and great photos. Thanks.

I love the Success Loop.

We have only taken this drive once... but it is beautiful. WE just visited Cave Lake this yesterday and I always enjoy Ely and the surrounding area.

Love this website. I forwarded it to a good friend.

Austin is a GREAT tourist destination, it has been, still is, and will continue to be one!!!! We have plenty of open space and trails for ATV trips, wonderful mountain bike trails and a quality of life hard to find these days. 11 Historic buildings and sites listed on the Nat'l registry and friendly people. It makes a great weekend destination, and is family friendly.

Hi Mark,

It took me a minute to remember what lake that is. It's called Snow Water Lake and lies just as the southern end of the Clover Valley, on the East side of US 93.

It's a seasonal lake. And basically very shallow. I have a few photographs of it taken off of US 93. Definitely not the place to bring the bass boat or sailboat.
