Photoblog : Stokes Castle at Sunset in Austin, Nevada

April 24th, 2007

Stokes Castle is a historic “castle” that is located in the highly remote town of Austin, Nevada. There is quite the lengthy history to this castle which I’ll elaborate on in a future post about Austin. But for now…just accept the fact that there is a beautiful and very old rock castle here. The castle itself sits just on the “outskirts” of Austin…on a dirt road about 1/4 of a mile from downtown. A small parking area is also available. (more…)

The Massive Big Smoky Valley

The Massive Big Smoky Valley

The Big Smoky Valley of Central Nevada is one of my favorite places in the state. There are several reasons for this…but the main one being is that the valley is gorgeous and serves as a gateway to the highly beautiful and accessible Toiyabe Mountains, which is home to numerous 4×4 roads as well as the Arc Dome Wilderness Area. Seat With a View in Great Basin National Park

Seat With a View in Great Basin National Park

There is nothing “special” about this photograph, I’ll be the first to admit. No dazzling colors. No dazzling rays of light. Yet, call me odd, I still like it. Perhaps because the photo was taken in one of my favorite National Parks…Great Basin National Park which is in Central Nevada.  Click on thumbnail to view the larger image. (more…)

April 10th, 2007

This is one of my favorite photos. This photo at least to me defines what this part of Nevada is all about…massive valleys surrounded by towering mountain ranges.  (more…)

Photoblog : The Clover Valley of Northeast Nevada

April 10th, 2007

The Clover Valley is one of the hidden gems in Nevada as far as I’m concerned. Tucked away to the east of the Humboldt Mountains and located about 30 miles to the south of Wells, this valley simply sprawls on and on and on.  (more…)

Photoblog : The Ruby Valley & The Ruby Mountains

April 9th, 2007

I absolutely love the Ruby Valley of Northeast Nevada. The valley is truly massive…extending north to south as far as the eye can see. When you are in the southern part of the valley, it extends so far to the north that you can’t see the end in fact. And this is what I love about Nevada….massive, unhindered views.  (more…)

Photoblog : The Monitor Valley of Central Nevada

April 9th, 2007

The Monitor Valley of Central Nevada is a place that has essentially been forgotten. This valley lies to the Southeast of Austin, NV and to the North/Northeast of Belmont, NV. The sole road that runs through the length of the Monitor Valley is called the Belmont Road.  (more…)

Photoblog : Sunset in the Northern Ruby Valley of Nevada

April 9th, 2007

This photo was taken in mid-May in the Northern Ruby Valley of Northeast Nevada. The Ruby Valley is a place few people even know about, let alone ever bother to visit. Yet the valley itself is beautiful…and exceptionally remote. From where this photo was taken, the nearest town…Wells…is around 40-50 miles away.  (more…)
