Photos of the Monitor Valley in Central Nevada : Gallery 2
January 16th, 2009The Monitor Valley is a huge and beautiful valley located in Central Nevada. The valley stretches for more than 60 miles in length and averages 10-20 miles in width. One road…a gravel road called the Belmont Road…runs through the entire valley. This road begins on the north at Highway 50. Or, you can access this road in Belmont, Nevada (which more or less marks the southern end of the Monitor Valley).
The Monitor Valley defines the word “isolated,” even by Nevada standards. Basically, with the exception of a handful of ranches scattered here and there, the Monitor Valley is basically uninhabited. As such, if you want to be alone and/or get lost in a wild and remote location…the Monitor Valley of Nevada is a superb place to go.
Additionally, the Monitor Valley is a very beautiful valley. The eastern side of the valley is flanked by the smaller mountains of the Monitor Range, while the western side is flanked by the towering peaks of the Toquima Range. Down in the valley itself, which is essentially flat…you get unending and incredibly sweeping views that simply go on and on and on.
