PhotoBlog : The Las Vegas Monorail![]() OK. This is a terrible photograph. Sorry…despite what some people say, I do have a life, and thus wasn’t in the mood to really run around Las Vegas to take a good photo of the Las Vegas Monorail. So…that begs the question…why is this ugly photograph here? Simple, the Las Vegas Monorail is the savior of people lucky enough to be staying at a hotel that runs close to it. You see, traffic on the Las Vegas Strip is absolutely terrible much of the day…particularly around Tropicana Avenue (MGM Grand, New York New York, Tropicana) and also up on the corner where Ballys, The Bellagio, and Caesars Palace are. It can take literally forever to crawl through some of these stop-lights. Additionally, I’m cheap…ok…poor, to be exact. As such, I’m sort of exiled off the main part of the Strip, and instead stay on the North part of the Strip, usually either in the Sahara or in the Stratosphere. I’m not especially wild about either place, but they are inexpensive, and in any event I have low expectations. But…there is one huge advantage of staying on the Northern part of the Las Vegas Strip, especially at the Sahara. And that advantage, besides being affordable, is that you can quite literally zip around to all parts of the Las Vegas Strip (Ballys and the MGM Grand in particular) easily and quickly on the Las Vegas Monorail. The Sahara is great because the Las Vegas Monorail ends right out back behind the hotel…simply walk into the gaming floor, follow the signs, walk over the bridge and you are there…ready to take the train down to the heart of the Las Vegas Strip. Thus…the Las Vegas Monorail allows poor bums like myself to spend lots of time in the best part of the Las Vegas Strip (Mandalay Bay north to the Wynn) without having to shell out massive amounts of money for a room or to deal with the hassle of trying to drive down the Strip in my antiquated Toyota pickup truck. Cost of the Monorail is $5 per ride…a bit expensive but not really when you consider the MASSIVE time saved by using the train to go back and forth between the Sahara (northern terminus of the Monorail) and the MGM Grand (southern terminus of the Monorail). <<< Previous Photoblog Next Photoblog >>> Camera Information
