Photoblog : Sunset in the Northern Ruby Valley of Nevada

Photoblog : Sunset in the Northern Ruby Valley of Nevada

This photo was taken in mid-May in the Northern Ruby Valley of Northeast Nevada. The Ruby Valley is a place few people even know about, let alone ever bother to visit. Yet the valley itself is beautiful…and exceptionally remote. From where this photo was taken, the nearest town…Wells…is around 40-50 miles away.

This particular photo I had high hopes for, but it died as the evening progressed. I found this nice shot with the irrigation sprinkler in the foreground and the snow capped peaks of the Ruby Mountains in the background about 30 minutes before dusk. At that time, the sky was full of high, thin clouds…a perfect recipe for beautiful sunsets. But sadly, as dusk arrived, the clouds dissipated at a alarming rate. The result was just a ok sunset.

Oh well…can’t have everything in life.

It’s interesting to look at this picture. It is good but you’re right– it is nowhere close to how the sunsets actually look. The sky is filled with gorgeous pink and orange light which sometimes look apocalyptic. I have actually worked this very pivot– it’s dry and miserable unless you have someone there to pass the time.
