Photoblog : The Monitor Valley of Central Nevada
April 9th, 2007The Monitor Valley of Central Nevada is a place that has essentially been forgotten. This valley lies to the Southeast of Austin, NV and to the North/Northeast of Belmont, NV. The sole road that runs through the length of the Monitor Valley is called the Belmont Road.

The Sweeping & Beautiful Monitor Valley of Central Nevada
A trip down the Belmont Road makes for a lonely drive. So lonely, in fact, you’ll see exactly TWO ranches on the entire 60 mile drive. The rest of the land is simply empty…and empty…and empty.
The valley itself is flanked by tall mountains, particularly on the west side. In the mountains the forests are thick, as the mountains of Central Nevada usually are. But down in the valley itself, trees are scarce and the views are enormous. The Monitor Valley is truly a great place to go to “feel small.”

Great info on the Monitor Valley. It’s one of my favorite spots in the world. At any rate, the directions you give to the Belmont road from Reno on US 50 are incorrect. You state if you’ve arrived in Austin you’ve gone too far. Not so! The Belmont road is even east of the Big Smokey Valley Road. The Belmont Road is between Austin and Eureka. Good work and great photos. Thanks.
Yeah, you’re right…that was a typo, or “something” I wrote up too late at night. Updated the travel log to reflect that.
